RIO DE JANEIRO, March 2. /Offset. TASS Darya Yuryeva/. Former Brazilian footballer, Edinho (Cholbi Edson do Nascimento), who is the son of legendary football player Pele, was released from custody during the pendency of a new appeal in his case. About it reports TV channel Globo.
In the summer of 2014, Edinho was convicted of money laundering and links with drug trafficking. The court of first instance sentenced him to 33 years in prison. The defendant appealed the verdict, however, the result of the appeal was not the recognition of his innocence, but only a reduction of sentence from 33 years to 12 years and 10 months.

February 24, Edinho came to the police station in the city of Santos (são Paulo state), that pursuant to the court decision to begin to serve his sentence . However, his lawyers filed a new appeal, and the athlete has once again stated his innocence.
“I’m crushed. I feel a huge disappointment, because I didn’t commit. I was accused of money laundering, but I didn’t do it”, – he said.
Edinho participated in the championship of Brazilian football, played the position of goalkeeper. Retired in 1999, at the age of 29 when he was sentenced to six months in prison for participating in motor racing, which killed the motorcyclist. Was eventually convicted of the murder, and later his actions were regarded as manslaughter. In 2005, he was rehabilitated in 2006, Edinho was in prison for six months for involvement in the drug trade, but then, the lawyers managed to prove his innocence.
Last summer, Edino became coach of the Brazilian club’s “Agua Santa”.
