U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo on Monday held talks with crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammad bin Zayed al Nahyan on measures for ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz and to deter Iran.
“Today in Abu Dhabi hosted a wonderful discussion with Mohammad bin Zayed al Nahyan on the necessity of promoting the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and work together on countering hostile activity of Iran,” Pompeo wrote in his Twitter.
Pompeo previously visited Saudi Arabia, where they discussed Saudi Arabia’s king Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud to enhance security in the Strait of Hormuz. While Pompeo characterized the conversation as “constructive”.
U.S. Secretary of state went to the Persian Gulf region amid worsening relations with Iran. Pompeo before the trip talked about the intention to discuss the possibility of creating a global coalition against Tehran.
