One of the major tasks of the visit of US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo to Ukraine would be to acknowledge the support of the U.S. policy of Kiev to counter “Russian aggression”, said a senior representative of the us state Department.

“This important visit will strengthen our support for Ukraine as it confronts Russian aggression and disinformation”, – the diplomat told reporters at a briefing in the Department.

He noted that Pompeo also intends to “promote reform efforts to eradicate corruption” in Ukraine.

State Department spokesman recalled that in 2014 the United States has provided Ukraine with total assistance exceeding $3 billion.

“The visit of Secretary of state to Ukraine demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and reiterates the importance of our strategic partnership with Ukraine. As we made clear in our Declaration of the Crimean, Crimea is part of Ukraine, and the United States will never recognize Russia’s attempts to Annex it,” the diplomat said.

As reported, Pompeo from 3 to 7 January will go on a tour, which will visit Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Cyprus. In Kiev, where he will be January 3, he will meet with President Vladimir Zelensky, the head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs Vadym Prystayko and Minister of defense Andrei Zagorodnya.
