President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the talks in Kiev with U.S. Secretary of defense James Mattis, they discussed the issue of strengthening the international presence in the Donbas, namely the UN peacekeeping mission.

“Mr Minister exchanged views on the strengthening of the international presence in the Donbas. We are talking about the possible deployment of a peacekeeping mission of the United Nations with the mandate of the UN security Council in occupied areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions”, – he told journalists after talks with U.S. Secretary of defense on Thursday in Kiev.

P. Poroshenko stressed that such an international presence will promote “the establishment of adequate security conditions to move the political track of the peace process” .
