The lawsuit of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) with a demand to cancel the state registration of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine is a matter of national security, said the leader of “European solidarity”, the fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
“The claim of the Ukrainian branch of the Russian Orthodox Church with a request to cancel the state registration of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine – is not a Church issue. This is a national security issue that requires attention of the President and the national security Council,” – wrote Poroshenko on Thursday on Facebook.
Poroshenko said that the lawsuit came after the leadership of the UOC (MP) together with the leader of the “Opposition bloc” Vadim Novinsky went to Moscow.
“What could better illustrate the reality of Russian revenge, the contours of which are becoming more visible? Increasingly clear attack on our values, on the Foundation of the state, which needs to be protected”, – said Poroshenko.
According to him, the assertion that “the Ukrainian state should not interfere in Church Affairs – this is a nice theory, but in reality it simply means indifference to Russian intervention”.
