The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko plans to propose the renewal of the special military courts, under existing international practice, so as to evaluate the actions of military commanders in a combat situation and have the military and not civilians.
“First of all, as the Supreme commander – I can not remain silent after the verdict of one of the civil courts, which sentenced army General (Victor Nazarov – if) to imprisonment for 7 years”, – wrote Poroshenko on his page on the social network Facebook on Tuesday.
He noted that over the past three years the Ukrainian army has fostered a new generation of “enterprising, daring and sometimes desperate commanders who protect our Ukraine”.
“To hobble their judgments would be foolish from the standpoint of ensuring the defense capability and security. That’s why I plan to propose a renewal of the special military courts in accordance with existing international practices”, – said the President .
