MOSCOW, June 19. /TASS/. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin has appointed Alexei Erchov Ambassador of Russia in Turkey. The corresponding decree published Monday on the official portal of legal information.

“To appoint Erchova Alexey Vladimirovich, Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Turkey”, – stated in the text of the decree.

Erchov until recently headed the Department “Situation and crisis center” of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Former Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Turkey Andrei Karlov, was killed on 19 December 2016 during a speech at the opening of the photo exhibition in Ankara, the terrorist shot the diplomat in the back. Charles was posthumously awarded the title hero of Russia “for their resilience and courage in the post of extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Turkey, a great contribution to the implementation of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation”.

Russia’s investigative Committee opened a criminal case under article “an Act of international terrorism”, the investigation conducted by law enforcement bodies of Turkey. The Turkish police in early 2017 detained several suspected of involvement in the crime, and in March arrested a Russian woman, which could be associated with a murderer. In June it became known that Charles was killed on the orders of the supporters of the Islamic preacher Fethullah gülen FETO (“the Terrorist organization of fethullahists”). According to the Prosecutor’s office of Ankara, the perpetrator of the murder mevlüt MERT Altıntaş had contact with five people who are part of the FETO. In addition, the investigators found that Altıntaş met with one of fethullahists in a five star hotel in Cyprus, where he received instructions on how to kill the Ambassador of the Russian Federation.
