Amid protests with mass arrests in Moscow the President of Russia sank to the bottom of the Gulf of Finland.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, July 27, made a deep dive in the Gulf off the coast of Leningrad region. Putin, together with a group of divers descended in a submersible to the bottom of the Gulf of Finland near the island of Hogland to explore the submarine U-308 “Salmon”, which sank during the Second world war. The immersion depth is 50 m. the event program – installation on the hull of a memorial plaque with the names of the submarine crew and a moment of silence in memory of them, reports DW.

Submarine U-308 “Salmon” in 1935 was included in the Baltic fleet. At the end of October 1942 from the explosion of German mines killed 40 members were on-Board crew.
