Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Razumkov held a telephone conversation with President of the European Parliament David Sassòli.

“Had a telephone conversation with President of the European Parliament David Sassòli. Special attention is paid to threats to European energy security, which is the project “Northern stream-2”, – he wrote on his Twitter page.

As reported to the Bundestag on the night of Friday, November 8, did not have enough votes for the adoption of amendments to the Gas Directive of the EU. Now the vote is postponed indefinitely.

The updated Directive adopted by the European Parliament in April, provides that part of the pipelines coming from third countries is laid over the EU territory, including its territorial waters will have to comply with the requirements that apply to the internal pipelines of the EU. Among the main requirements of the Directive – separation suppliers and gas companies, transporting it, access to the pipe other operators, transparent tariff regulation on pumping.

This means that the operator “Nord stream-2” should be independent from “Gazprom” and 50% of its capacity should be reserved for alternative suppliers. Exceptions are possible, but only with the approval of the European Commission. Developed in Berlin, the bill will allow “Gazprom” to assume that the project was completed in may, and therefore it should be subject to the old rules.

“Nord stream 2” will be held on the Baltic sea, connecting suppliers in Russia customers in Europe. With a throughput capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The project cost is estimated at nearly EUR10 billion.

The founder and owner of a controlling stake in the company-the operator of project Nord Stream AG 2 is “Gazprom”. The consortium also includes the French Engie, Austria’s OMV, British-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell, the German Wintershall and Uniper
