Prime Minister of Estonia jüri Ratas said that the political relations of Estonia with Russia are at a low level.
Prime Minister of Estonia jüri Ratas (Juri Ratas) said that the political relations of Estonia with Russia are at a low level.
“We are neighbors. Political relations is zero. We have some economic and cultural relations”, – said Yuri Ratas in an interview with Spanish El Pais, quoted in Sunday portal Delphi.
Answering the question whether he believes that the tension from the Donbass spread towards the Baltic region, the Prime Minister said that the voltage will remain in Ukraine and in Georgia. “But we have to remind every day, that is abnormal, when one country takes part of another country, as happened with the Crimean Peninsula. Therefore, we agree with the EU sanctions against Russia”, – said Yuri Ratas.
At the same time, he believes that the atmosphere in the Baltic countries more tense than before 2014 . “No, I don’t feel that. I can’t say that it was more stress than before. The three Baltic States together are quite strong. We form part of the EU and NATO,” he said.
Answering the question whether he feels that NATO, including the US, protect Estonia, he said: “the Main thing for me is that our citizens feel protected by our army. Then NATO and the EU.” “As for the trump (President of the USA of Donald trump – if), it a few weeks ago clearly said that “the United States strongly supports NATO”, and this applies to all articles of the Treaty, including the obligation to protect the other partner in the event of a conflict with a third party”, – said Yuri Ratas.
