TASS, 5 Feb. Employees of security services of the Maldives broke on Monday in the Supreme court of the country. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the representative of the court.

Previously President Abdulla Yamin announced the introduction of a state of emergency for a period of 15 days .

On Thursday, the Supreme court of the Maldives overturned the sentence against former President Mohamed Nasheed and eight opposition members accused of terrorist activities. On Friday, Nasheed announced his intention to run for presidential elections this year. In addition, the Supreme court decided to restore the mandates of the 12 previously ousted opposition members of Parliament. As noted by France Presse, Yamin had earlier dismissed the chiefs of police of Maldives – Ahmed Arif and his successor, Ahmed Saudi, who tried to carry out the decisions of the Supreme court.

On Saturday, the Maldivian Parliament announced about temporary suspension of work for indefinite period for security reasons, the country held rallies supporters of the President and in support of the Supreme court. According to Reuters, to guard government buildings in the capital, had attracted more than 100 employees of the special forces of the police.

On Sunday, the country’s Prosecutor General Mohamed Anil said that the Supreme court of the Maldives is about to suspend Yamina from power. He also noted that the Supreme court has no authority over the President and urged the police and military not to obey to this decision.
