MOSCOW, may 22. /TASS/. The Russian team will play in the group stage of the 2018 world Cup of hockey with the current winner of the tournament the team of Sweden. About it reports a press-service of the International ice hockey Federation (IIHF).

In 2018 the world Cup will be held in Denmark, the tournament will be attended Copenhagen and Herning. The Russians will play in group A, which also will play with teams of the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belarus, Slovakia, France and Austria. All games will be held in Copenhagen.

Herning will host matches of group b, which got teams from Canada, Finland, USA, Germany, Norway, Latvia, Denmark and the debutant of the world Championships team in South Korea.

Groups were generated based on the updated rating IIHF, in which the national team of Russia has retained second place .

“Both groups are perfectly balanced or very close to it – said a member of the IIHF Council, the head of the Danish ice hockey Association Henrik Bach Nielsen. – Sweden and Denmark had to be in separate groups, and we wish the Russian national team played in Copenhagen, as it could lead to the stands a lot of viewers. We have received many requests for booking of hotels from the Russian side. We are sure that Copenhagen will cope with the task, creating a festive atmosphere for all audiences from abroad, and for the Danish fans.”

At the recent world Cup in 2017, which was held in Cologne and Paris, the Swedes in the final shootout beat the Canadians (2:1). The Russian team in the match for third place defeated the team of Finland (5:3).

The 2018 world Cup will be held may 4-20.
