Swimmer Arkady Vyatchanin, the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing won two bronze medals in the Russian team, said that the international swimming Federation (FINA) allowed him to represent the U.S. at international competitions. According to him, bureaucratic procedures took a long time.

“I finally got from FINA permission to play for the United States at the international level. Despite the fact that I was expecting that this will happen without problems, I was left with an unpleasant aftertaste. If I were allowed to present Serbia, this might contribute to the development of sailing in the Balkans, where the national Federation does not have large financial capacity and do not have a large influence on the decision tougher,” said Vyatchanin

In early August, 33-year-old swimmer had applied to FINA for a change of sport nationality. Soon the athlete intends to qualify to the US national team in swimming. Vyatchanin has received an American passport in the summer of 2017. The corresponding request, he filed a year ago.
