Science news: Thanks to new technology, researchers were able to find out who is buried in the cromlech of Stonehenge.

The image of the oddly-placed stones on lush green meadow, familiar to users of classic Windows XP. This photo appears in many photostocks and is the default in almost every electronic device.

Stonehenge is a sacred place of the ancient inhabitants of Britain – the druids – still has to wrestle with many archaeologists and historians regarding its origin. Still nowhere in southern England, the stone age in a few thousand years, and what is their true purpose.

The recent discovery of a group of scientists headed by researchers from the University of Oxford, may finally provide answers to these and other questions .

Scientific work published in the journal Scientific Reports, says that the famous blue stones of Stonehenge were probably transported more than 200 km from their current location.

Scientists were able to prove that, once again digging up the remains of buried people there. At least 10 out of 25 of the buried were from the West coast of the UK – Wales. Judging by their chemical composition, the stones of the mysterious altar moved there.

Since the bodies were cremated previously, scientists believed that further studies come to a standstill. But, Professor, free University of Brussels, Christophe snook was able to develop the technique made it possible to extract from the remains of human bodies strontium, which crystallize during their cremation.

Because plants absorb strontium from the soil, it accumulates in the bones when people eat plants. The technology of metal extraction has helped to determine the geographical location of the dead in the last 10-15 years of their life.

A colleague of Christophe Snuka from the London Institute of archaeology Kristi Willis began to study the remains interred in the cromlech of Stonehenge, when archaeologists dug them up again in 2008.

Because of the persistence and perseverance in their studies, now scientists can confidently say that almost half buried arrived from Wales.

“Many people have told me that we have nothing. The inability to extract from these remains that I left too many blank pages in our history, in our past,” says Christoph snook. “Forty percent of the people we analyzed, could not exist around Stonehenge in the last decade of their lives. I know it’s all moving, but we are talking about the time around 5000 years ago.”

Indeed, a distance of several hundred kilometers for the modern man is nothing but we are talking about the third Millennium BC, a time when there was no widespread wheel. Overcoming even a few kilometers from his place of residence was an extraordinary feat at that time.

In addition, the archaeological dates of human remains close to the early construction of Stonehenge that provides a basis for assumptions about transport huge stones from Wales.

While scientists can’t say for certain whether the direct buried there by the builders of Stonehenge is, or is it one of the most respected members of the ancient society, which is specifically transported to a special place of burial.

Perhaps for many centuries, people with stones brought to Stonehenge to carry out such rituals.

“Strontium, usually associated with Geology, and it gives us geographical information. The work on the cremated remains opens up a whole new area of study in migration of adults, which was not previously possible,” explains Jane A. Evans, an archaeologist at the British geological survey. “The study can assume not only transportation of the stones from Wales to Wiltshire (the County where Stonehenge is located – ed), but that between these two areas could exist constant communication”.
