Researchers at the bottom of the Pacific ocean one hundred meters drilled wells and made a sensational discovery – they found microbes that had lain at a depth of 100 million years.

An international team of scientists, consisting of Japanese and American experts, “awakened” the microbes that approximately 100 millions of years had lain in the bottom sediments of the Pacific ocean. Microorganisms were discovered at a depth of almost six thousand meters below sea level, says Science Alert.

Microbes all the time survived with the help of a small amount of oxygen. When the researchers placed them in a nutrient medium, they began to multiply.

The work was carried out in the South Pacific ocean. To “extract” organisms, scientists had to drill a hundred-meter hole. In the end, the microbes were found at a depth of 5.7 thousand meters below sea level.

Initially, the deposits was only one thousand of living cells per cubic centimeter, when was the added nutrients, the microorganisms multiply to a million cells per cubic centimeter.

“This discovery demonstrates the endurance of microorganisms: if they were able to exist for so long in such difficult conditions on Earth, then it can adapt to the environment of other planets and celestial bodies in the Solar system,” – noted experts.

As previously reported, discovered the mysterious remains of ancient organisms. The age of discovery about 2.5 billion years.
