In turn, the head of the Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Moscow puts its troops on the Kuril Islands solely to protect the territory of the Russian Federation, reports “Russian conversation”.

According to Shoigu, these actions are not directed against any state.

The Minister recalled that the division is created for six years, and this is done to protect Russian territory.

Recall that in the course of the meeting in a format “two plus two” the Russian and Japanese sides exchanged concrete proposals on joint economic activities on the Kuril Islands. This was at the end of the negotiations, said Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

In addition, Lavrov said that the resumption of meetings in this format demonstrates the desire of Russia and Japan to bring bilateral relations to a new level.
