On Tuesday the international football Federation (FIFA) fined the Russian football Union (RFU) on 30 thousand Swiss francs (about €25 million) for discriminatory chanting fans at a friendly match between the national teams of Russia and France (1:3 ). The meeting was held March 27 in St. Petersburg.

“It’s a pity that such incidents of discrimination have a place for us, fortunately they are extremely rare and do not represent a trend, – said Sorokin. – We have come a long way to isolate this problem. To control the reactions of people is impossible in any country of the world.”

The head of the organizing Committee “Russia-2018” believes that strengthening and clarifying the penalties for discrimination will help to eradicate the problem. “We always said that we need to promote tolerance and an explanation of what the consequences are of such incidents, plus the certainty of punishment. If people know what exactly will follow administrative or criminal liability depending on the seriousness of the acts, then begin, finally, to think a head”, – said Sorokin.

The interior Ministry of Russia has established the identity of the people who showed discrimination. At the moment the police conducts verification activities to bring them to justice.
