On Monday, Japan’s defense Minister Tomomi Inada said that, in her opinion, the Russian-Japanese negotiations in a format “2 + 2”, will be held today in Tokyo.
On Monday, the Ministers
of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, and his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, and
also Lavrov and Inada meet in a format “2 + 2” in Tokyo to discuss
bilateral and regional issues against the backdrop of the thaw in Russian-Japanese
relations.
“The cooperation between
States required for the adoption of regulatory measures in respect of the matters
security. I think it is important that in this situation, the consultations in the format “2
+ 2″ held at the Ministerial level for the first time in the last four years,” said
Inada on the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu .
Inada said that he would like
have a Frank exchange of views with the Minister regarding defence policy and the situation
in the region.
As is known, Moscow and Tokyo is not
signed a peace Treaty after the Second world war because of disagreements in
with respect to the group of Islands, which Russia calls the Southern Kurils and Japan
Northern territories: the Islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Habomai.
We will remind, the first round of negotiations between Japan and Russia on the Kuril Islands started yesterday and already managed to reach first agreements.
