PYEONGCHANG /South Korea/, 10 Feb. /TASS./ Swedish skier Charlotte Kalla won the gold medal in skiathlon in the Olympic games in South Korea’s Pyeongchang.

Skiathlon takes place in two stages: the first part (7 .5 km) athletes overcome the classical style, the second (7.5 km) – ridge course. Cal overcame the distance in 40 minutes, at 44.9 seconds. Silver the asset of the Norwegian Marit bjoergen (delay +7.8 seconds), bronze was won by Finca Krista Pharmacoki (+10,1).
Russia’s Natalia Nepryaeva was eighth (+33,0), Anastasia Sedova – 12th (+1.12,8), Julia belorusova – 18th (+2.06,1), Alice zhambalova – 21 (+2.14,2). By decision of the International Olympic Committee, the Russians participated in the Games under the Olympic flag in status of the Olympic athletes from Russia. Only in the Olympics in 2018 are involved 168 Russian athletes.
Silver in the skiathlon allowed the 37-year-old bjoergen become the sole leader in number of medals won at the winter Olympics among women. Now she has 11 medals: six gold, four silver and one bronze. 10 medals of the Olympic games, the Soviet skier Raisa Smetanina (4-5-1) and Italian Stefania Belmondo (2-3-5).
Kalla became a triple Olympic champion. The Swede won at the Games in Vancouver in 2010 (10 km) and in Sochi in 2014 (relay). She also won three silver Olympic games. Assets 30-year-old skier two gold, six silver and four bronze medals at the world Championships. In 2008, she won the Tour de ski.
Women’s skiathlon, became the first medal the start of the Olympics in Pyeongchang. Games will end on February 25.
