The captain of the sunken in 2015 of the boat “Oriole” Alexander Knyshov was found guilty of violation of safety rules of movement and operation of water transport, which entailed death of people.

As the press service of the Judiciary of Ukraine on Monday, October 18, was announced the verdict in the case against the defendant owner of the vessel “Ivolga”.

“The court recognized citizen K. guilty in committing a crime under part 3 of article 276 of the Criminal code of Ukraine (violation of safety rules or operating rail, water or air transportation), sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 9 years”, – says Suvorov district court on Monday.

In addition, the court has partially satisfied civil suits of victims for the sum more than 2 million UAH.

As reported, on October 17 2015 in Zatoka Odessa region sank the boat “Ivolga”. Managed to save 22 people. It was also stated about the death of 22 people. According to investigators, the total number of people on Board the vessel at the time of the tragedy, 44.

In relation to the ship’s captain, the police started criminal proceedings under part 3 of article 276 (violation of safety rules of movement and operation of railway, water or air transport) Criminal code of Ukraine which sanction provides imprisonment for 5-10 years.
