The new sanctions regime is created before the elections to the European Parliament.

The European Union (EU) approved new sanctions for cyber attacks as members of the European Union, and other States and international organizations. About it reports a press-service of the European Commission, reports rbc.ua.

It is reported that EU Finance Ministers approved the sanctions regime that allows countries of the Union to freeze the assets and ban on entry in respect of individuals, firms and government agencies who were found guilty of involvement in the cyber attacks.

The new sanctions regime is created before the elections to the European Parliament, which will be held on 23-26 may. EU officials have accused Russia of hacking attacks against Western countries. Russia, as a rule, denies the accusations.

Note, Italy is opposed to the proposals of a number of other EU members to impose sanctions against Nations that carry out cyber attacks.
