Svetlana Aleksievich was born may 31, 1948 in the city of Stanislav (now Ivano-Frankivsk). Worked as a teacher and a history teacher, and later graduated from the journalism faculty of the Belarusian state University.

The writer has published his first book in 1985. Her book of monologues “war” marked the beginning of the cycle “the Voices of Utopia”. Then in the same cycle out “Last witnesses”, “Zinc boys” and “the Chernobyl prayer” .
