The UN Secretary General intends to appoint the first woman President in the history of Chile Michelle Bachelet the new UN high Commissioner for human rights. Her candidacy must be approved by the General Assembly.
UN Secretary-General, antónio Guterres, informed the General Assembly of the world organization of the intention to appoint the former President of Chile Michelle Bachelet to the position of the UN high Commissioner for human rights. This was reported on the website of the United Nations.
Now the Bachelet candidacy must be approved by the vote of the UN General Assembly. The first in the history of Chile is a woman-President will replace Zeid RA’ad al-Hussein, whose term expires on August 31.
Michelle Bachelet was President of Chile twice, from 2006 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2018. Her last term ended in March of this year .
In 2010-2013 she was the head of the organization “UN women” dedicated to gender equality and women’s rights.
Earlier it became known that the budget of the UN created a “hole” at $800 million.
