The high Council of justice approved the petition of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine about the detention of the judge of Suvorovsky district court of Odessa Konstantin Bobovsky, who is suspected of extortion and the desire of obtaining illegal benefit by the participants of the case, which he leads, transfers “Gromadske.TV”.
“The high Council of justice has satisfied the petition of the Prosecutor General about the detention of the judge of Suvorovsky district court of Odessa Konstantin Bobovsky,” reads the note published on a site “hromadske.ua” Sunday.
The Prosecutor’s office asks on the measure of restraint in form of detention as the consequence considers that the judge may put pressure on witnesses and to use connections in law enforcement to avoid justice. In addition, the prosecution suspects that he may tamper with or destroy evidence and put pressure on judges, which redistributed the case in which the Bobovsky is suspected of misconduct . There’s also operational data that the judge can go abroad and escape from the investigating authorities.
“It is worth noting that this is the first case when the High Council of justice considered the question of granting consent to a judge in custody, because prior to the reform of justice the question of the immunity of judges was within the competence of the Verkhovna Rada. The higher justice Council started to work on 12 January 2017, and this is the first thing that they gave the Prosecutor’s office on the agreement to the judge under arrest,” – said in a note.
