KALININGRAD, August 20. /TASS/. Annual military-historical festival “battle of Gumbinnen” near Kaliningrad dedicated to the centennial of the latest offensive of the Russian Imperial army in the summer of 1917. The reconstruction involved more than 120 participants from 20 Russian clubs of military reconstruction, said on Sunday in the Department of information policy of the Russian military historical society (RVIA).

“On a former battlefield near the modern village of Lermontov of the city district of Gusev (former Gumbinnen – approx. TASS) Kaliningrad region, has recreated one of the episodes of the last occurrence of the old army, 1917”, – noted there.
The site of the festival
Kaliningrad oblast is the only region of the Russian Federation in which territory took place the battles of the First world war . As noted by Executive Director of the Russian military historical society Vladislav Kononov, the festival “Gumbinnen battle” for society “is one of the trademarks of” military reconstruction.
The site has deployed a field hospital tent, a shooting range, where it was proposed to make a single shot from the weapon during the First world war. Soldiers in uniforms of the Imperial Russian army introduced the techniques of the bayonet. There was an exhibition of photographs depicting the history of the First world war, the military technology of the Russian and German armies.

The interest of the guests aroused the only thing at the festival armored car early XX century. “It’s “Mako-Mulag” 1914 edition, these were made of only five pieces,” – said the correspondent of TASS Sergey Maslov, chief engineer of the club of historical reconstruction “the First avtoplaneta company” from St. Petersburg. The armored car is a completely restored according to the drawings, he said. “The engine is certainly not the time because the engines were not preserved at all, but he’s 70 years,” said re-enactor.
“In 1913 Russia from Germany was purchased 20 frames, wheel bases and engines of German trucks “Mako-Mulag”, before the war, the Germans gave tsarist Russia a total of five trucks, and their base was made of armored vehicles,” – said the source.
On the battlefield this machine several times passed from hand to hand, engaging in battle on the side of the Russian and German armies. Armored vehicles on the battlefield in those years was rare, it was often captured and used by opposing sides, said experts in military history.
The fashion show and the battle
The festival’s main venue – the area of 50 hectares, where the battle unfolded. The Preface was the fashion of the early XX century. Participants of historical clubs presented, tailor-made for those years. So, viewers saw the girls in uniform of the battalion of Maria botchkareva.
The first world war
TASS recalls the major events and little-known details of the war, which is the first in the history was called the world and drastically changed life in Russia.
Reconstruction included four episodes, and lasted about 40 minutes. The spectators turned the events of the summer of 1917. The positions of the Russian army propagandists agitating against the war, the neutral zone – “fraternization” with German and Russian soldiers, which the German high command uses for its own purposes. The appearance of Maria Bochkareva’s battalion changed the course of the battle, and the heroism of the women’s battalion, used by the cavalry and the approach of the main forces of the army, led to the victory of Russian arms.
More than 100 Marines, four guns (two on each side), and seven armored cavalry participated in the reconstruction. Details of the battle were first demonstrated on a large screen installed in front of the spectator bleachers. By the end of the festival was a festive parade of re-enactors and demonstrations of intelligence of the Baltic fleet, demonstrated the techniques of modern hand-to-hand combat. Also on the site of the festival completed a flight of two Mi-24 helicopter.
The participants of the festival
In the festival, according to organizers, was attended by reenactors from Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Kaluga, Noginsk, Tula, Serpukhov, Crimea, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Moscow and Moscow region. Invitations were sent to foreign clubs, but they did not arrive, said Kononov.

The festival “Gumbinnen battle” will be maintained by RVIA, said Kononov. The festival “Gumbinnen battle” takes place in Kaliningrad region in 2013. In the first year it was visited by about 25 thousand people. In 2014 (the centenary year of the outbreak of the First world war) the number of viewers had increased to nearly 70 million, which was a record. The organizers are the Russian military-historical society, the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation, the government of Kaliningrad region, administration of the Gusev urban district and the center of military and historical reconstruction “Garrison-A” have been assisted by the Baltic fleet.
