Trukhanov called the actions of radical nationalists act of vandalism and a slap in the face to the citizens of Odessa. About this he wrote on his page in Facebook, reports the Russian Dialogue.

As explained mayor of the city, the demolition of the monument to Zhukov was the initiative of individuals, not the will of Odessa. He stressed that the fate of the monuments in Odessa should only define its inhabitants.

Trukhanov also made it clear that the dismantling of bas-relief from the building of the military registration and enlistment office allowed the Ministry of defense of Ukraine, namely the housing-operational Department of the Agency. In his opinion, such actions are unacceptable.

The demolition of the monument to Zhukov was held on October 31 and was recorded on video. Russian TV presenter Olga Skobeeva called “freaks” of the nationalists, who had abandoned the bas-relief on the asphalt.

Earlier, a similar incident happened in Kharkiv. Local radicals demolished a monument to Zhukov, knocked the bust to the ground. Kharkiv mayor Gennady Kernes has condemned the actions of the nationalists and promised to restore the sculpture. The Federation Council member Frants Klintsevich, commenting on the actions of vandals, explained why the Ukrainian nationalists hate the Soviet Marshal.
