During the meeting of the Joint intergovernmental Ukrainian-Hungarian Commission for economic cooperation the Ministers of foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Hungary Dmytro Kuleba and péter Szijjártó have discussed the prospects of a meeting between President Vladimir Zelensky with the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, which could take place at the end of July, said Deputy foreign Minister of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar.
“Prospects of a meeting between President Vladimir Zelensky with the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban. Roughly, this may be the end of July. The Hungarian side promised to provide their developments on the Memorandum of understanding, which we asked them during the visit of Minister Dmitry Kuleba in Budapest”, – he told in interview to Agency “Interfax-Ukraine”.
Bodnar described the talks within the framework of the Commission in Kyiv successful and constructive.
“The fact of the Commission after seven years of break is already some impetus. The Ministers personally approved and signed the appropriate Protocol. Agreed to promote in the coming weeks, two additional commissions for national minorities and education, as well as measures will be taken for the preparation of a cross-border Commission on the development of border infrastructure,” he said.
In addition, according to him, the parties found understanding on measures on overcoming the consequences of floods in Transcarpathia.
“Our side has made a proposal on the involvement of the General quadrilateral of engineering battalion “Tisa”, whose task is to assist the population during the floods”, he said.
Bodnar added that all the issues had not been resolved, differences remain, but they try to keep to a clear algorithm solutions. One way of solving the issue of rights of national minorities in the field of education, he mentioned the improvement of Ukrainian legislation in the framework of implementing one of the recommendations of the Venice Commission, namely the development of a new law on national minorities.
“For us red lines remain the adopted laws on education and official language. Ensuring the rights of national minorities in the field of education can be implemented in the context of private schools, as well as improvement of Ukrainian legislation in the framework of one of the recommendations of the Venice Commission, namely the development of a new law on national minorities. It is the ways in which we can go further in dialogue with each other and solving the existing problems, disagreements and approaching our positions. With this calculation we are going to meet the President and Prime Minister,” he explained.
On the question of whether the parties reached an agreement on the issue of education before the meeting Zelensky and Orban, Bodnar replied that probably progress would be made
“I think that would be progress. Will he be able to finally resolve the issue, I would not hurry with such conclusions. We are committed to constructive and result, but this result needs to be mutually advantageous”, – he stressed.
Full text of the interview with Bodnar will be published on the website of the Agency “Interfax-Ukraine”.
