The Georgian President asked the head of the NATO p arliamentary Assembly on assistance in the improvement of the updated program to the national security of the country.
The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili at the meeting on Saturday with President of the parliamentary Assembly (PA) NATO Paolo alli thanked him for his support of the Euro-Atlantic course of Georgia and territorial integrity of the country, and holding in Tbilisi of the spring session of the NATO parliamentary Assembly, press service of the head of state.
According to the press service, during the meeting, the meeting focused on the parliamentary session of the Alliance and cooperation of NATO and Georgia, as well as on the situation in the country and ways of improving its national security.
“The President has asked the P. alli connect NATO experts to jointly develop recommendations for implementation of constitutional amendments to improve the architecture of the national security of the country”, – stated in the message.
For its part, the head of the parliamentary Assembly of the Alliance said that NATO “strongly supports the aspirations of Georgia to integrate into Euro-Atlantic structures, which is holding in Tbilisi of the parliamentary session, and talked about the steps that can be done in the direction of Georgia’s membership in NATO.”
However, he expressed firm support for Georgia and said that rarely, when the meeting of the parliamentary Assembly of the Alliance held in the country, is not a member of NATO. “Georgia is among this rare exception, and it’s not just a gesture, but a significant political move on the part of NATO,” – said P. alli.
According to him, stability in Georgia is essential to the stability of the entire region. “This is important not only for Georgia and Europe, but for the whole world, because we must ensure the territorial integrity, respect of international law and what is happening here, it is very important for NATO, Europe and, I think, for many other countries” – quoted in the message words of the head of the PA Alliance.
