Gitanas Nausea discussed with the Nobel prize for literature in the NPP.

The President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausea on March 5 met with Belarusian writer, laureate of the Nobel prize for literature Svetlana Aleksievich. About it reported in a press-service of the head of the Lithuanian state.

During the meeting discussed the exceptional works of the writer, including those associated with the Chernobyl tragedy.

“Do we know how to evaluate the painful experience and learn from it the right lessons? Next to Lithuania, in Belarus, the construction of modern “Chernobyl” – Belarusian NPP in Ostrovets. It is a threat not only for Lithuania but also for the European Union as a whole. The book Svetlana Aleksievich “the Chernobyl prayer,” performances which take place in Lithuania and Belarus, is a Wake-up call for States that underestimate the threat of the Belarusian NPP. We must strive to ensure that nobody had to write the chronicle “Ostrovets prayer”,” – said the President of Lithuania.

Also Nausea and the author discussed the priorities of cultural diplomacy in Eastern Europe, the importance of preserving historical memory and the threat of rewriting history.

The meeting discussed the initiative to declare 2022 the year of the Belarusian enlightener and publisher of Francysk Skaryna. The President of Lithuania supported the initiative of Svetlana Alexievich to open a publishing company for women authors.

March 5-6 the writer takes part in international conference “Healing the wounds of the past: consequences and ways of overcoming”, organized by the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Lithuania in cooperation with Centre for development of democracy in the name of academician Andrei Sakharov and the Institute of psychology of Vilnius University.
