The return process captured by Russia in the Kerch Strait Ukrainian vehicles is in the final stages, said the assistant of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky Andrey Ermak.

As reported, Russian border guards on 25 November 2018 arrested with weapons near the Kerch Strait the Ukrainian tow “Yana Kapu” and small armored artillery boat “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol”, on their way from Odessa to Mariupol.

The FSB characterized the incident as a provocation. The Russian side claimed that Kiev has not informed Russia in the established order of passage of ships of naval forces of Ukraine through the Kerch Strait.

According to the authorities of Ukraine, Russia violated the UN Convention on the law of the sea and the agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation in using the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait.

UN international Tribunal for the law of the sea on may 25, ruled that Russia must release Ukrainian sailors and to give Ukraine confiscated during the incident, the Ukrainian court. Moscow and Kiev had until June 25 to submit reports about the incident in the Kerch Strait. The Russian foreign Ministry on June 25 sent to the international Tribunal for the law of the sea and the Embassy of Ukraine notes with the initial information about implementation of the Tribunal prescribed provisional measures for the release of the Ukrainian seamen and ships detained in the Kerch Strait.

In Russia, on Board ships 24 Ukrainians, including two employees of the security service, charged with “illegal border crossing committed by a group of persons upon a preliminary collusion or by an organized group or with application of violence or with threat of its application” (part 3 of article 322 of the criminal code).

24 military sailor returned to Ukraine on 7 September in the framework of mutual liberation of Ukraine and Russia detained persons.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim Pristayko November 4, said that Kiev sent a note to Russia with the requirement to specify the coordinates and time when the Ukrainian side can pick up their vehicles.
