July 22, finished eighth Odessa international film festival. At the closing ceremony the President of OIFF Victoria Tigipko presented the “Golden Duke” for contribution to cinema by the French actress Isabelle Huppert. The winner of the national competition was the film “Dixie Land” by Roman Bondarchuk, documentary competition – “starring role” by Sergey Bukovsky. Odessa film festival proved that Ukrainian cinema is developing and can apply for awards of international film festivals. Odessa film festival is built very well and competently. Along with competition films, the FESTIVAL includes the program “Gala premiere” which acquainted the audience with the latest work of françois Ozon and Sergei Loznitsa, and “Festival of festivals”, which marked the main festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice. OIFF quite clearly exposed the problems of modern cinema, both Ukrainian and world. Now in fashion, feminism and so many movies one way or another touch on this subject. European cinema increasingly comprehends modern Europe (immigrants, terrorism, joined the new territory of the former Soviet camp). Newcomers and beginners often shoot something autobiographical. Sometimes they have something to say, they build the imagery, trying to find my cinematic language.
