The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko welcomes the fact that the European Union summit in Rome reaffirmed the commitment of the EU to remain open for countries with shared values.

“I welcome that the agenda for the Rome summit reaffirmed the EU’s full commitment to remain an open unit for countries that respect the values and support them. Ukraine is one of them,” he said during his speech at the summit of the European people’s party (EPP) on Wednesday in Malta.

The Ukrainian head of state noted that he fully supports the concept of a “multi-speed Europe”.

“It can allow the Eastern European countries that with all my heart believe in the European perspective, to give new blood to the project of the EU” – said Poroshenko.

He noted that Ukraine “is ready to go to first gear in a car of the EU.”

Speaking about the current situation in Ukraine and in the world, the President described it as a crisis of confrontation between two opposite concepts of freedom and tyranny . “Ukraine is on the verge of the struggle. Daily for three years, Ukraine has been fighting in this hybrid war against the Russian military, terrorists, propaganda, hackers, corruption, and absolute deception,” – said P. Poroshenko.
