The U.S. Congress has prepared new sanctions against Russia for unlawful detention of the crews and ships of the Ukrainian Navy. This is stated in a press release, Congressman from Ohio, Marcy Kaptur.
“The co-chairs of the Ukrainian Caucus in Congress, introduced house of representatives a bipartisan bill, providing for the introduction of us sanctions against 24 top officials of the Russian special services and those close to him for the unlawful detention of 24 Ukrainian sailors and 3 ships of the Ukrainian Navy in the Kerch Strait in November last year”, – stated in the message.

Co-authors of the bill is the congressional Democrats Marcy Kaptur and Michael Quigley and Republican Andy Harris and Brian Fitzpatrick.
The bill proposes to leave the sanctions in force as long as Russia withdraws Ukrainian sailors and ships.

Us lawmakers said that “the international community must not stand by while Russia intensifies its aggression in Europe and the world”.
Congressmen believe the document is a powerful message to the Ukrainian seafarers and their families that the US “do not forget about their heroic struggle for the defence of the democratic path and sovereignty of their country”.
