The U.S. Embassy in Kiev warns of risk of safety on the territory of Ukraine in August in connection with a possible increase in the activity of extremists on the eve and during the holidays.

“ISIL and other extremist groups, tend to use holiday periods for … attacks. Holidays and the preceding period can be targeted. In August, the Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha (11-12 August) and the independence Day of Ukraine (August 24),” – said in a statement on the Embassy website on Friday.

The Embassy noted that typically attacks the extremists aimed at crowded places, so in this period, “it is important to be vigilant and to practice awareness with the situation.”

The U.S. Embassy encourages citizens to avoid demonstrations, monitor news media, to be vigilant in places frequented by tourists, as well as to carry identification.
