The U.S. government under the Emergency plan of the President of the United States to assist in the fight against HIV/AIDS (President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, PEPFAR) will provide Ukraine in 2017, $37.5 million
As reported on the website of the Centre for public health (CHP) of the Ministry of health of Ukraine, for the purchase of medicines and medical devices allocated about $5.6 million In particular, these funds will be purchased 15 thousand courses of antiretroviral therapy to increase treatment, 4 th annual courses subject to pre-exposure prophylaxis, as well as 100 thousand rapid tests.
From the amount allocated US $6 million will go towards strengthening health systems. Information on how will be distributed the remaining funds on the Agency’s website is missing.
In addition, the report noted that in 2017 the program will spread to Donetsk region, which will be 12 by region of PEPFAR .
“Successful negotiations in Washington were the result of the country’s commitments to increase public funding. In the State budget for 2017 have been allocated for procurement of antiretroviral drugs in the amount of 684 million UAH, which is 171% higher than in 2016. Thus, the state will be able to provide additional 40 thousand patients who had been receiving treatment through PEPFAR,” – noted in the message.
