The participants fundamentally disagreed and failed to issue a joint statement.
The UN security Council in a closed session the day before was unable to agree on a joint statement on the situation around the military operations of Turkey in Northern Syria, writes Interfax.
It is noted that during the meeting the parties separated positions so that the approval of the joint statement became impossible.
In particular, the United States and Russia refused offers of other countries on acceptance of the application. The reason, according to media reports, was the presence in parts of the document where we are talking about the actions of Turkey, the word “condemnation.”
Permanent representatives of several European countries at the UN following the meeting extended its joint statement, urging Ankara to stop the operation.
US Ambassador to the UN, Kelly Kraft recalled that Washington “does” not approve of the decision of Ankara to carry out this operation.
For its part, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said that during the Turkish military operations in the North of Syria, all parties should exercise restraint.
We will remind, on 9 October, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the launch of new operations in Syria under the name of the Source of peace. Her goal is to create in the North of Syria of a buffer zone, where you will be able to return the refugees.
In response, President Donald trump said that the US will destroy the economy of Turkey if it starts to destroy the Kurds in northeast Syria.
