The US has accused Russia of artillery and rocket shelling in the East of Ukraine and urged to take steps to resolve the humanitarian crisis.
“The situation in Ukraine, unfortunately, is not improving. The U.S. remains deeply concerned about the escalating violence and deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Eastern part of Ukraine”, – told reporters, state Department spokesman Heather Nauert.
She stressed that the United States is “once again urged Russia to stop artillery and rocket attacks on the Ukrainian civilian areas and to comply with the cease-fire.”
Neuert accused militias in the shelling in November of a water treatment plant near Donetsk, and said that the station “is still under threat.”
“The treatment plant and the power substation to provide drinking water, electricity and Central heating approximately 345 thousand people. It is impossible to imagine that someone threatens the supply of water and Central heating in the dead of winter . Russian-backed forces must immediately move from their new positions around the water plant” she said.
According to her, “the humanitarian situation in Eastern Ukraine is now worse than in the last three years.”
“We call on Russia to take immediate steps to resolve the humanitarian crisis by withdrawing its troops and consent to a robust UN peacekeeping mission”, – said the official representative of the state Department.
According to her, the US is also “urging Ukraine to do more to alleviate suffering and protect civilians and critical infrastructure.”
“The United States remains committed to lasting peace in Eastern Ukraine through full implementation of the Minsk agreements”, – she concluded.
