WASHINGTON, July 25. /TASS/. The us administration announced on Wednesday a Declaration of non-recognition of the reunification of Crimea and Russia. The document that officially and publicly proclaimed policy of Washington the rejection of the return of the Peninsula to the Russian Federation, published, signed by Secretary of state Michael Pompeo.

The document notes that, “just as did in the case of the “Declaration of Welles,” the United States reaffirm its policy of refusing to recognize the claims of the Kremlin on the sovereignty over the territory”, which, according to Washington, allegedly “had been taken by force in violation of international law”.
Pompeo was referring to the decision in July 1940 the American party statement, signed by acting Secretary of state Sumner Welles . In this document Washington refused to recognize the accession of the Soviet Union Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
“US calls on Russia to respect the principles, which she has already said, holds” – said in the document the chief of American diplomacy.
March 11, 2014 Supreme Council of Crimea and the Sevastopol city Council on the background of political crisis and regime change in the Ukraine adopted the Declaration on independence of Autonomous Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol.
March 16 on the Peninsula with a turnout of over 80% held a referendum, the results of which for the reunification with Russia voted 96,77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of Sevastopol. March 18, was signed the agreement on the adoption of new constituent entities in the Russian Federation. Ukraine, USA and EU refused to recognize the independence of Crimea and its reunification with Russia.
The administration’s position trump
Meanwhile, as reported earlier, information portal BuzzFeed, citing two unnamed diplomatic source, trump said during the June summit of the group of seven in Canada that Crimea is Russian because its inhabitants speak Russian.
Trump also wondered why the leaders of “seven” are on the side of Ukraine. According to sources of BuzzFeed, he added that “Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries in the world.”
As noted in the publication, it remains unclear whether these words were said in jest or they were a symptom of a sharp change in foreign policy of the United States.
In addition, soon after coming to power, the administration trump actually publicly admitted the possibility of settlement with Russia disagreement over Crimea without the driver.
In January 2017, Rex Tillerson, speaking at the hearings in the Senate, which was devoted to the consideration of his candidacy for the post of U.S. Secretary of state, signalled the readiness of the administration to trump to recognize the reunification of the Crimea with Russia if the situation around the Peninsula will be resolved acceptable to Ukraine. “The only way by which it (recognition – approx. TASS) can occur is the development of a broader agreement that would satisfy the Ukrainian people,” – said Tillerson.
