Leukemia is a malignant disease of the hematopoietic system

Today all known methods of treatment of leukemia are very toxic and difficult tolerated by the patients .

A group of researchers from Boston University have discovered the protein responsible for the development of aggressive T-cell leukemia, according to EurekAlert.

Researchers examined tissue samples of patients with cancer and found that they have increased the level of protein UFD1 (Ubiquitin-fusion degradation). An artificial decrease in the activity of genes responsible for the synthesis of UFD1, not only reduced the level of protein, but also stopped the growth of tumors. On the state of healthy tissue intervention had no effect.

As explained by one of the researchers, PhD Hui Feng, to date, all known methods of treatment of leukemia are very toxic and difficult tolerated by the patients. Detecting when the level of UFD1 and tumor growth gives hope for the development of drugs which will not harm healthy tissue.

Leukemia is a malignant disease of the hematopoietic system. When T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, the mortality rate reaches 20 percent in children and 50 percent adults.

Informed scientists call the products that help to prevent bowel cancer. Among them pomegranates, red grapes, pears, mushrooms, lentils, soybeans and green peas.
