The power of Venice in the framework of the fight against overtourism approved a new tax for entering the city will enter into force on 1 July 2020, according to the newspaper Express on Thursday.

“A tax on the entry will earn in Venice July 1, 2020. It will affect tourists arriving in the city on planes, cruises, buses and other transport. The tax is aimed at guests visiting Venice as part of a day tour. Tourists staying overnight in hotels, have to pay a tourist fee”, – writes the edition.

The size of the new tax will vary from season to season. So, from November to April, the fee will be 3 euros, may to Oct – 8 euros, and on summer weekends and during carnival – 10 euros.

To pay tax travellers through the mobile app using your Bank card and other ways which are now being worked out. The penalty for non-payment can be up to 450 euros. Exempted from the tax will be guests of Venice coming for work, study or to visit family.
