WASHINGTON, June 29. /TASS/. Head of administration of the USA Donald trump hopes that his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will reduce the level of tension in bilateral relations and lead to the establishment of constructive cooperation between Moscow and Washington, which will strengthen international security. This was announced on Thursday the correspondent of TASS, the representative of US state Department in connection with the announcement of plans for a July 16 bilateral talks between Putin and trump in Helsinki.

“The President hopes that the meeting [in Helsinki] can help to reduce tension and lead to constructive cooperation, which will strengthen peace and security in the world”, – said the employee of foreign policy Department of the USA.

She said, “the President sought this meeting in the national security interests of America to determine whether Russia is ready to progress in [bilateral] relations.”

“The President believes that the improvement of relations with Russia would benefit both America and Russia”, – said the diplomat. “However, – she told, – the ball is on the Russian side of the field, the President will continue to engage Russia accountable for its malicious activities.” “The priority of the President is to protect the American people and American interests, including with respect to our allies and partners,” added the spokesman.

She answered negatively to the question about whether the American side any announcements regarding a new round of negotiations between Russia and USA on strategic stability. Earlier, Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow offered Washington a specific timeline for the resumption of this dialogue and now waiting for a response.

According to the testimony of the press service of the Russian leader, at the meeting of Putin and trump planned “to discuss the current state and prospects of further development of Russian-American relations and topical issues of the international agenda.”
