Ukrainian-American exercises “sea breeze – 2017” started in Odessa on Monday, the correspondent of “Interfax-Ukraine”.
In the framework of the teachings of the Ukrainian sailors and their colleagues from partner countries plan to work through the actions of multinational headquarters for the planning and conduct of marine operations in accordance with NATO standards, the actions of the multinational forces during operations to maintain security in the Black sea. In particular, among the planned activities: diving descents, the rate of inspection teams coordination of tactical groups, training to survive in combat for flight crews, teachings on anti-ship and air defense, amphibious and riverine operations, and others.
In total, the exercise involved more than 30 ships, boats and vessels provide, more than 25 aircraft and helicopters, as well as members from 16 countries, including Ukraine, with a total of more than 3 thousand people . At the same time with the Ukrainian side in the events of “sea Breeze”, except for the Military-naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine, will be attended by units of the National guard, State border service, Land and Air forces of Ukraine, and army corps of engineers.
Opening exercises, the commander of the Navy Igor Voronchenko said that this year the teachings have noted a kind of jubilee – the 20th anniversary from the first exercise in 1997, and also these teachings is the 15th in a row. “I am confident that the exercise will be effective and will give the participants good results,” he said.
In turn, the head of doctrines from the American side, captain 1st rank of the Tate Westbrook (Westbrook Tate) said that part of the exercise will be held in the “free games”, and also one of the elements will be the development of anti-submarine operations in the Black sea.
“Thank partners and allies for their presence here. We need to work together, to study together, and hopefully at the end of the exercise we will be more experienced and trained”, he said.
The exercises will be held in the Odessa and Nikolaev areas, and also in the northwestern part of the Black sea.
