NEK “Ukrenergo” has completed the test cycle generating equipment thermal power plant, TPP and HPP for regulation of frequency and power within the program investigate the possibility of synchronous operation of power systems of Ukraine and Moldova to ENTSO-E (European network of transmission system operators for electricity).

According to a press release from the company, for three months, there have been nine types of tests on 11 blocks of eight power plants in the country. The results of the work control apparatus will be transferred to a consortium of system operators ENTSO-E with the aim of creating a mathematical model of the power system for the simulation of its work and research on steady state and dynamic stability.

“These studies in turn will allow us to evaluate the possibility of synchronous operation of the power system of Ukraine and Moldova to ENTSO-E and at this stage will determine the need for additional technical measures for their integration,” said the NEC.

The tests were carried out with the consulting support of the U.S. Agency for international development (USAID), as a consultant performed Energy Association of the USA (USEA).

As reported, in April 2018, Ukraine and Moldova signed a Memorandum on cooperation and joint action between the relevant ministries of the two countries, aimed at ensuring European integration processes towards the possibility of synchronous operation of power systems of Ukraine and Moldova to ENTSO-E.

In June 2017, the head of Ukrenergo Vsevolod Kovalchuk signed the agreement on the terms of future interconnection of Ukraine and Moldova to ENTSO-E. In July, the agreement entered into force after its signing by the required number of European system operators.

The deadline for the implementation by Ukraine of measures the catalogue of requirements for accession of the ECO countries to the grid of continental Europe is coming in July 2022.

The document consists of three main parts: the catalogue of requirements (the unconditional fulfillment of which is necessary for making decisions on interconnection); the list of necessary additional studies; the “road map”.

ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) was founded in 2009. United six existed at the time of industry associations: ATSOI, BALTSO, ETSO, NORDEL, UCTE and UKTSOA, which includes 41 system operator from 34 countries.

“Ukrenergo” performs the operation of trunk and interstate transmission lines, and centralized dispatching control of the United energy system of the country. NEK is a state enterprise is subordinate to the Ministry of Finance, but will be transformed into a private joint stock company.
