United Nations, 27 March. /TASS/. The U.S. permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley at a meeting of the UN Security Council said Tuesday that Russia violated a UN security Council resolution 2401 in Eastern ghouta.

According to her, Russia “ignored the agreements” on a cease-fire. She believes that “only after the territory coming under the control of Syrian government forces there allowed the delivery of food and medicine”.

Permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said that Russia is “taking active steps to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria, including in the framework of the implementation of resolution 2401, the UN Security Council”. “Maybe someone doesn’t like, but we are in fact the only one who has made concrete efforts to implement resolution 2401,” said he .

On 24 February 2018, the UN Security Council adopted resolution 2401 on the establishment of a truce in Syria for at least 30 days to provide humanitarian assistance to the population. According to the document, the truce does not extend to the terrorist group “Islamic state” and “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra” (both banned in Russia – approx. TASS). Western States sought the adoption of the resolution on the background of the situation in Eastern ghouta, where, surrounded by the Syrian army there were thousands of members of armed groups.

After the adoption of the resolution initiated by Russia in the East Huta was introduced the daily five-hour humanitarian pause. In the early days of pause was disrupted by militants, but later the situation stabilized.
