The representative of the President of Ukraine for children’s rights Mykola Kuleba said about plans to create a national strategy for online safety for children, the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

According to Kuleba in Ukraine every fifth child has suffered from sexual violence. The children do not know where to turn for help, often they are silent about the crime, and the violence continues.

“In today’s world one of the dangers is and sexual violence online. Recently, together with the International telecommunication Union, we conducted a study in which participated more than five thousand children and more than five and a half thousand parents. According to the results, 30% of the children agreed to meet with a person they met online. 85% of parents said that they do not know where to turn in case of a problem online. We are currently working on a national strategy for online safety of children,” – said the Commissioner for the rights of the child

Kuleba noted the importance of Frank conversations with children, including about the risks of online communication and building a trusting relationship.
