The majority of the members of the UN security Council on Monday did not support Russia’s proposal to hold a meeting in connection with the adopted in Ukraine, the law on the state language.
So, five members of the UN Security Council expressed support for the meeting, six against, and four countries abstained.
Earlier, the representatives of France, Germany and the United States have stated that they intend to block the meeting, considering it untimely.
It was expected that the UN security Council on Monday will hold a meeting devoted to the adoption in Ukraine of the law “On ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian as the state language”. It was requested by Russia.
As reported, on April 25, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading the bill language. Amendments to the document, the parliamentarians considered in plenary meetings for almost two months – from February 28.
May 15, who was then President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the language bill, noting its exceptional balance.
