TASS, July 18. Soviet and Russian referee Yuri Karandin was appointed honorary Vice – President of Federation of hockey of Russia (FHR). About it reports a press-service of the organization.
On Wednesday, FHR adopted the new position of honorary Vice – President of the organization. “To promote for long-term conscientious labour, considerable contribution to development of hockey and for the expression of gratitude, it is assigned to the illustrious judge, Yuri Karandin,” – said in the message.
81-year-old Karandin is a Board member of the Russian hockey Federation, Chairman of the Board of the interregional coordination centre “Siberia-far East”.
Karandin from 1963 to 1968 he judged the matches of the USSR Championships. 22 times it was among the ten best referees in the country. Karandin was working at the winter Olympics in 1972 and 1984, as well as six world Championships (1970, 1973, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987) . He became the first domestic referee, who was entrusted to officiate the matches involving players from the National hockey League, Karandin worked at the Canada Cup in 1984 and officiated the matches of super Series-1975/76 with the participation of American and Soviet clubs.
In 2004, Karandin was elected to the Hall of fame of Russian hockey. In 2012 he was awarded the order of Honor. In 2004, he was inducted into the Hall of fame of the International ice hockey Federation (IIHF). Karandin is one of the six referees in the Hall of fame IIHF and the only Russian judge.
