The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukrainians understand the tragedy of the Second world war, which claimed the lives of many residents of Ukraine, and now feel such pain because of the war in the Donbass.
“We, Ukrainians, truly understand what a tragedy, what is Nazi Germany. Like Poland, Ukraine was occupied during the Second world war. We have a lot of friends and relatives died in the war,” said Zelensky at the meeting with the Vice-President of the United States Mike Pence in Warsaw, noting his speech at the ceremony on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second world war.
The Ukrainian head of state pointed out that the Second world war was a great world tragedy. “And now we feel it very personally when we have a war on Donbass are killed every day and our guys, our Ukrainian military”, – he stressed.
The Ukrainian President thanked Ukrainians, who are defending their country, thanked the President and the U.S. government for the financial and military assistance to Ukraine.
“I think that peace will soon come, and we’re fighting it now,” said he.
Zelensky also noted that the United States has always defended the rights of Ukraine, defended and did not change its position on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
